By virtue of the division into segments of the area of the historical center, which gives rise to the four quarters, the territory of this district, marked by flags, whose colors are representative of the Yellow-Green, includes the portion of the country that sees in a part Via Roma (formerly called via Corsica) its main village, particularly in the stretch between Port Murata via the Pitch (fulcrum of the public ward) and ending with the arrival in Piazza Ser Vanni on which it is located Porta San Giovanni or Filaio.
The port, commonly known as the Filaio, was dedicated to St. John because the road that led through it to a chapel dedicated to this saint. For a similar reason was also known as Porta dei Cappuccini since, along the same road, you come to the convent of the Capuchin Fathers.
It was originally topped by a tower which, since 1697, threatening to collapse. Subjected to immediate restoration, not proved conclusive, the tower, under license from the Captains of the judiciary, it was partially demolished. The restoration was completed in October 1698 by a master Francesco Parrucchetti of Milan.
